Radioactive solid wastes and liquid effluents arise during the operation of the Rossendorf research laboratories and at the decommissioning of nuclear installations. The experts of VKTA collect and treat such wastes and effluents and keep them safely until a repository of the Federal Government is available.
VKTA have acquired vast experience in the field of radioactive wastes and liquid effluents disposal. The employees of VKTA give advice in the pre-investment stages for the development of a waste management infrastructure and assist in preparing the applications for the required regulatory approvals.

The employees are responsible for the detailed registration and documentation of the wastes treated and stored in the interim storage. Their logistics with state-of the art equipment has been well proven for the reception and transportation of radioactive wastes and liquid effluents. Solid low-level radioactive wastes and residual substances are accepted in 200 litre waste drums and containers up to 20 feet length. Radioactive liquid effluents may be supplied in small drums or tank vehicles.
In addition to that VKTA also operate the Collecting Station of the Free State of Saxony. It also accepts and stores radioactive waste from the Free State of Thuringia.
